AllΒ of the world's cultures have always known how to leave the body. They call it astral projection, soul travel, or simply the vision. For most of human history, this was a way to connect with ancestors, ask gods for guidance, and look for life-altering information.
The West drifted away from all of that. And the people who still carry these traditions rarely open their doors to outsiders.
I asked seven of them to sit down with me anyway. The conversations I had with each of them stayed with me long after the recordings ended. They made me think about the state of the world, our connection to this earth, and mostly, the return to self. Each one opened my eyes in a different way.

Grandmother Flordemayo is a Curandera Espiritu and Mayan priestess, born in the highlands of Central America, where she began learning the ancestral art of healing at the age of four. She is one of the International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers and the founder of The Seed Temple in New Mexico. For decades she has carried the ceremonial fire tradition to audiences across the world.

Kundalini tradition
Guru Singh is a third-generation yogi who has been teaching Kundalini for over fifty years. A musician, bestselling author of nine books, and founder of Kundalini University, he trained directly in the lineage of Yogi Bhajan. His work has trained thousands of teachers worldwide.
Julian Vayne
Western occult tradition
Julian Vayne is a British author and occultist with over four decades of practice across Druidry, Chaos Magic, Freemasonry and Witchcraft. A senior member of the Magical Pact of the Illuminates of Thanateros and author of fourteen books, he co-founded Breaking Convention, the UK's leading psychedelic conference, and sits on the academic board of the Journal of Psychedelic Studies.

Sapara shamanism, Ecuador
Manari Ushigua is a Sapara shaman, healer and political leader born into the Amazon rainforest of Ecuador, where his father, grandfather and great-grandfather were all powerful shamans. He has served as President of the Sapara Indigenous Federation and conserved over 276,000 hectares of primary forest from extractive industries. The Sapara are one of the most endangered peoples on earth, their oral traditions and dreaming practices among the rarest in the world.
Eila Paul
MΔori tradition, Aotearoa New Zealand
Eila Paul is a MΔori elder of Tainui descent from Aotearoa New Zealand, a healer, storyteller, songweaver, and dreamkeeper. She works with sacred sound as a tool for healing, using the voice and the ancient songs of her people to transform the inner landscape of individuals and the wider environment around them. A member of Grandmothers Circle the Earth, Aotearoa, she has carried indigenous wisdom across North America and Europe, working with communities through ceremony, story, and sound.
Sergio Magana
Mexican Toltec tradition
Sergio Magana is a Mexican healer and author initiated into the 5,000-year-old Toltec lineage of Mesoamerica, trained in a shamanic oral tradition passed from master to student for over 1,400 years. His book The Toltec Secret became an international bestseller translated into nine languages, and he now teaches a community of over 60,000 students worldwide. He is known within his lineage as Ocelocoyotl.
Jade Shaw
THEΒ HOST OF THE SERIES
Jade is an Out of Body Experience (OBE) teacher that advocates non-ordinary states of consciousness for personal and collective change. She consulted for Netflixβs Behind Her Eyes, produced the film Insight Out, and published science research as part of her Msc Transpersonal Psychology.
